Achihayao Shrine

The giant camphor tree in the shrine grounds, designated as a natural monument of Osaka Prefecture, is approximately 6 meters in circumference, 16 meters tall, and believed to be around 1,000 years old. The central trunk was severely cut due to lightning strikes in the Taisho era, leaving only a third alive. However, it remarkably recovered with the help of a "tree doctor."

The shrine also features a monument for the Iris Cutting Festival and four komainu (guardian dogs) in front of the main hall, which is quite rare nationwide. The back komainu was dedicated during the 1300th anniversary of the sacred sword in 1968, while the front one dates back to 1820. Despite the years, the four komainu sit together harmoniously.

Naka-Koya Kaido's Ken Kaido.

The Naka-Koya Kaido, used by many pilgrims traveling from Kyoto and Osaka to Mount Koya in Wakayama, is also known as “Ken Kaido” in this area. The name "Ken Kaido" is believed to have originated from the pilgrimage route to Achihayao Shrine, historically referred to as Yatsurugi Shrine, during the Edo period.
